III. COMMENTS • COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection- The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology (DMG). This mine has closed and reclamation of most areas is complete.
Three or four inches of snow covered all areas except south-facing slopes. Temperatures
were hovering slightly above freezing but no runoff was occurring.
Hydrologic Balance
The two remaining sediment ponds at the mine site continue to be dry. The large culvert in
Magpie Creek under the road leading to the GEC area was clear of debris or blockage. A
pipe diverting a small spring empties into the inlet of this culvert. Spring flow appeared to be
less than one gallon per minute.
Processing Waste
The most recently reclaimed portion of the refuse pile is the western side of the pile, shown
below. The area was traversed on foot. No sign of slumps, slides, or damage of any kind
was noted.
N', ~I~ ~
!~
p' ~ 4 ~
.y 2?'
