teve_getation
Due to warming sad conddions. cool season grasses and fortis were beginning to grow.
Cheatgrass is abundant in the native and reclaimed areas with some seeded species such
as western wheatgrass observed. Vegetation appears adequate to control erosion on
reclaimed areas.
Arr Resource Protection
If dry conditions persist, dust production generated from haul truck traffic on the surface of
the refuse disposal area could become a problem. The operator should implement watering
or other measures to comply with Rule 4.17 if and when necessary.
Reclamation Success
The reclaimed area of the East Portal was traversed on foot. This reclauned area is
immediately adjacent to Scullion Gulch. Sediment and runoff is controlled by berms, silt
fence drain structures, and silt fence. Some sections of the silt fence require maintenance
due to wear and tear over the winter season Sdt drain structures appeared in good
conditions and berms were intact. Surface roughening on the reclaimed surface is significant
and seems effective in reducing runoff until vegetation becomes established.
