(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECRNG ID #: _ M-ia>;s-ins
INSPECTION DATE: n4/~2/n2 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: TAC
OBSERVATIONS
1. A site inspection of the Horton Pit was made as part of the Division's on-going 4-year inspection program. The site is
located 17 miles north of Fort Collins. Present during the inspection was Dale Miller, Director of the Road & Bridge
Department for Lorimer County. Digital photos were taken during the inspection and are attached to this report.
2. The Horton Gravel Pit is permitted for a total of 42 acres. Mining has been completed on approximately 22 acres or 2/3
of the entire site and the operator has done a good job of reclaiming the previous disturbance. With the exception of
some rill & gully erosion in the northwestern portion of the reclaimed area, all slopes are stable and have been re-
vegetated. The grass cover on the reclaimed acreage is not adequate at this time for final bond release. The post-mining
land use is designated as pastureland. There is no financial warranty required as the operator is a unit of county
government per Rule 4.1.2(2). Prior to release of reclamation responsibility for the acres already reclaimed, the operator
will need to demonstrate an adequate vegetative cover and stabilization of all slopes from rill and/or gully erosion.
3. This inspector notes that the operator has up to five (5) years to reclaim the site, upon initiation of final reclamation.
4, A discussion was held over the operator's options far future mining of the undisturbed west 1/3 of the site. The
operator would certainly be eligible for future disturbance in this area, even in the midst of receiving a release for
disturbed portions reclaimed in accordance with the reclamation plan and to the satisfaction of the Division.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Dale L Miller
OPERATOR: Lorimer County
STREET: P.O.Box 1190
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Fort Collins, CO 80522
cc: Carl Mount, DMG (via E-Mail)
Attachment
