(Page 2}
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1990-134
INSPECTION DATE 4-21-OS INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRS
This was a general monitoring inspection of the Ross Pit conducted by Gregg Squire of the
Division of Minerals and Geology. Bud Bower, the operator of the operation, was also present
during the inspection. Weather conditions on site were clear. The site is located about
five miles east of Craig, off the airport road down an access road which goes to the north
toward the Yampa River. There is no Permit ID sign posted, which is considered to be a
problem, PLEASE SEE PAGE 3 OF THIS REPORT.
At the time of this inspection there was no sign of any recent mining activity. There is a
small crusher and screening equipment on the site as well as several small stockpiles of
material.
The operator has committed to maintaining a 100 foot buffer between the pit and the
riverbank. They have also committed to contemporaneous reclamation as much as practicable to
limit disturbance at the site. The area which was most recently mined has been regraded
sloped and revegetated. At the time of this inspection, because of the reclamation, it was
very difficult to determine that the lake was actually an active mining site. In addition to
the pit, other disturbances consist of a two to three acre processing and stockpile area.
The topsoil which has been salvaged to reclaim this area has been placed in a berm to the
north of a service road, between the road and the Yampa River. This topsoil has been
identified with a sign. Wildlife observed on or near the site included deer, sand hill
cranes and ducks.
Other than the need to replace the Mine ID sign, there were no problems noted, over-all this
is a well run operation which is being reclaimed as soon as practicable after disturbances
are created.
I & 8 Contact Address
I' CE
NAME James H.
