Varna gravel mining operation, formerly permitted by M&M Sand 8 Gravel on lands identified as the
Doeringsfeld, Aratas and Elliot Site, Weld County Case number SUP-345, permitted through approval by
the Board of County Commissioners on March 14, 1978 having a legal description of NE4 Section 9 and
N2 Section 10 Township 5 North, Range 65 West of the 6'" P.M., Weld County Colorado.
County staff noted several large capacity dump trucks moving material from the east part of the property
to an area that appeared to building up the land for a new earthen "structure".
Planning stafFs review of Special Use Permit 345 drawings does not delineate the new earthen
"structure". The drawing dated October 20, 1977 for the Extraction Map does not delineate any
stockpiles adjacent to the River or at any other location on the drewing. It is of concern that the location
of this "structure" in the floodway as it relates to the Cache La Poudre River and adjacent properties.
The concern is on several levels, first, is the potential damage that maybe incurred to adjacent and
downstream property and structures; the second, it appears this activity has been undertaken without
prior approval by the Division of Minerals and Geology or the USArmy Corps of Engineers and third, this
activity is a direct violation of the Special Use Permit obta(ned through the County.
