(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2005-077
INSPECTION DATE: 2-8-06
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. The Upland Gravel Pit #3 is a proposed 112c permit site located west of 32 Road in the
southeast part of Grand Junction. Mr. Gary Rinderle representative for Upland Gravel, Walt Eldridge Upland's
consultant and Bruce Fowler from the Bureau of Land Management met the inspector on site.
The public notice required by Rule was posted at the entrance to the site. The permit area covers a lazge portion ofa
BLM tract. The disturbance area will be confined primarily to the top portion of a mesa with a visual buffer Left in
place.
Access to the site is currently a 2-tract road from 32 Road to the top of the mesa. Major upgrades will be necessary
to bring the road up to mine traffic standards. These upgrades require that the haul road be part of the permit.
Unfortunately a portion of the proposed road was not included in the permit area. The applicant's consultant will
place a corrected map in the County Clerk's Office and adjust the Public Notice to reflect this amendment to the
application. The Notice has only been out for a week so no major time has been lost in the review process. Please
forward 2 copies of the correct maps to Division staff as soon as possible as well.
The inspector did not note any utilities or other structures that are not identified on the Site and Mining Maps.
A review ofthe proposed mining and reclamation plans appeazs to be consistent with other sites of similar geology
and geography. The site will be returned to a rangeland post mine land use. The applicant will be forwarding a
BLM approved seed mix to the inspector as part of the review of the Reclamation Plan. Current vegetation is noted
as 90% halogeton, Russian thistle and cheat grass. Some four-winged salt bush, western wheat grass and prickly
pear cactus was noted in the other 10%.
Currently no noxious weeds, tamarisk or Russian olive is noted on site. The applicant will monitor the site once
mining begins for any weeds listed by Mesa County Weed Control. If any are noted, the applicant will contact the
Weed Control for an approved control plan.
No other issues are noted at this time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology,
Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3`d Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no.970-241-
1117.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Gary Rinderle
OPERATOR: Upland Gravel, Inc.
STREET: P.O.
