(Page 2)
MINE ID ~ OR PROSPECTING ID ;P M-83-090
INSPECTION DATE August 7. 1996 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS AJW AGS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron and Allen Sorensen of DMG
along with Jeff Gregg of Hall-Irwin Construction Co. The operator is in the process of
mining area 5 along the north and west sides. Upon completion of this area the current plan
ie to move into area 4 which lies to the west of area 5.
The south aide and most of the: east aide of area 5 has been regraded to the final grade which
is 4s1 or flatter. These areas, along with any additional regrading in area 5, ie elated to
be reseeded this fall. Upon final completion of area 5, the remaining pit ie scheduled to
be flooded and left as a small open lake.
Three areas that have already been mined out and reclaimed are areas 1, 2 and 3. The northern
part of area 1 will not be reclaimed until mining is completely finished as the office and
batch plant are located in th:ie area. Area 2 was inspected and no problems were noted. The
backfilled elopes look fine and vegetation ie established on the re-graded areas. Area 3 was
also inspected and for the most part looks good. The regrading is adequate in this area and
moat of the area has revegetat:ed nicely. There are a few areas that will require re-seeding
as moat of the vegetative cover that currently exists in these areas is annual weeds. In
addition, a couple of areas contain sizeable infestations of noxious weeds, moat notably
Russian knapweed along the eastern shoreline. The southwest corner, the northwest corner and
all along the northern shore will need to be reseeded with the approved eeedmix this fall.
These are the areas that were not successful during the initial seeding and now contain
mostly annual weeds. The areas that include the knapweed should be treated to control the
knapweed prior to re-seeding.
In addition to the knapweed i:here were several areas where leafy spurge was beginning to
encroach on the reclaimed areas or was present in the active areas. Every effort should be
undertaken to control the spurge in these areas. The operator indicated that they had been
in touch with the Weld County Weed Department to develop a joint plan to control all noxious
weeds on the mine site.
The overburden/topsoil etockp.ile which was cited in the last report ae needing to be moved
has in fact been moved. Some of this material probably was utilized to reclaim area 1 which
was short on topsoil and backfill material. That portion of area 1 is now regraded
appropriately and has also bean seeded recently.
No problems were noted and thfa site appears to be functioning smoothly.
I & E Contact Address cc: Carl Mount
^ CE
NAME Jeff Gregg ^ BL
OPERATOR Hall-Irwin Construction Co. ^ FS
STREET P.O.
