MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID#: M-1977-342 PAGE: 4
INSPECTION DATE: 3-24-03 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ACS
Inside the mill building, there are several scrap metal collection
stations. Photos of two of these stations (photos 6 and 10) are
attached to this report.
Rather than landfilling wood waste, Henderson collects the wood into a
burning pit located behind the mill. Photo no. 5, attached to this
report shows the wood burning location.
Trash collection dumpsters within the mill were inspected. A sign is
posted at each of the dumpsters listing prohibited trash types.
Employees are prohibited from bring trash from home for disposal at
Henderson. Photos 7, 8, and 9 show trash disposal locations and
typical restriction signage in the mill.
Henderson requires that aerosol cans be depressurized and evacuated
prior to disposal. There are numerous aerosol can stations located
throughout the mill. Photo 11 illustrates one of these stations.
Henderson has made a considerable investment into the recycling of
cardboard through the purchase of a cardboard bailing machine. A photo
of this machine is included as photo no. 12 attached to this report.
Henderson also recycles all office paper and aluminum cans; photos of
typical recycling stations are included as photos 13 and 14 attached to
this report.
In summary, Henderson has established procedures and processes to
control waste disposal in the Henderson landfill to:
• Prevent disposal of unacceptable waste.
• Control blowing trash.
• Protect ground water from landfill leachate.
• Minimize land filling through recycling programs.
cc: Carl Mount, DMG (via email)
Erica Crosby, DMG (via email)
Mr. Bill Gray (w/photos)
Grand County Planning
P.O.
