(Page 2)

MTd7E IDi# OR PROSPECTING ID # M-79-045
INSPECTION DATE 06-02-99 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS CBM
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection done to clear up concerns expressed by the surface owners (Department of
Energy) regarding the operator's plans to import inert fill to the site to use to build berms and possibly to use as
growth medium for revegetation purposes.
The mine as presently permitted will extract both clay and gravel. The clay pit, estimated to be approximately 50
feet deep runs north and south along the strike of the clay beds which dip approximately 45 degrees to the east.
Recently, AI Frei and Sons has been operating in the pit to remove gravel during the winter (operation must be
done when the weather is cold in order to properly wash the material and increase extraction). Gravel extraction
is concentrating on removing the berm to the east of the pit and backfilling unusable washed material into the
south part of the open clay pit.
Presently, the operation consists of two clay pits; one in the north approximately 1100 feet long and 300 feet wide
(all measurements are from the 1998-99 Annual Report map), and one in the south approximately 900 feet long
and 100 to 200 feet wide. The southern pit has been partially backfilled by the gravel operation. The gravel
operation plant site is in the southeast corner of the permitted area while the clay operation and plant site is to the
southwest at the entrance road to the permit area.
The bond amount for this site is inadequate. Accordingly, the first page of this inspection report contains a "PB"
under the Financial Warranty check box. The financial warranty will be recalculated soon after the map detailing
the importation of inert material is received. This map must be received by no later than Jur,.~ 30~ 14 A9
I & E Contact Address cc
CE
NAME Mr. Thomas J.
