The assessment goes on to say that long-term mitigation would be best accomplished by
eliminating the pond.
Cemex agrees with the impact assessment and the long-term mitigation recommendation. It is
recommended that resources be put into eliminating the pond instead of the minimal benefit
achieved by a gate and fencing.
Sampling, Analysis and Reporting
Cemex will perform sampling, laboratory analyses and reporting of findings to the Division for
the following five (5) parameters of concern (as identified by the Division):
Analyte Ag Water -- Drinking-Water- Dakota Aquifer Surface Water
Standard Standard Baseline Baseline
Selenium 0.02 mg/L 0.05 mg/L TBD TBD
(dissolved)
Chloride N/A 250 m TBD TBD
Sulfate N/A 250 m TBD TBD
pH 6.0 - 9.0 6.5 - 8.5 TBD TBD
Total Dissolved 550 mg/L 550 mg/L TBD TBD
Solids
These parameters will be monitored in C-pit and in A-pit water twice monthly and laboratory
results will be forwarded to the Division within 10 days of receipt. The frequency of monitoring
may be reduced upon consultation with and approval by the Division.
These parameters will also be monitored in the off-site Dakota Formation well (owned by others)
on a quarterly basis. Results will be forwarded to the Division within 10 days of receipt and the
frequency of monitoring may be reduced with approval from the Division. Cemex will also
sample the Boulder Feeder Canal and St. Vrain River to establish a water quality baseline
upgradient of C-Pit.
If there are exceedances of applicable water quality standards in either A-pit or the off-site well,
Cemex will immediately notify the Division to discuss the appropriate action plan. Applicable
standards aze the Colorado agricultural or drinking water standards, whichever is most stringent.
If the proposed sampling, analysis and reporting program proves unsatisfactory after 6 months,
Cemex will work with the Division on other monitoring methods. The table below summarizes
the monitoring frequency for all five analytes of concern.
A-Pit C-Pit Dakota Well St. Vrain Boulder Feeder
6 Biweekly 6 Biweekly
Biweekly Biweekly Quarterly samples to samples to
establish baseline establish baseline
