~ ~R ~~
Z
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection artd the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Bowie No. 2 Mine conducted by Susan
Burgmaier from DMG. Harry Ranney took the Aerial photos on June 13, 2006.
Weather was clear and the ground was dry.
As noted in prior inspection reports, Bowie reclaimed the West Portal from
approximately September 2000 through October 2002. During that time,
most of the buildings at the East Mine were dismantled and removed. Since
then, there has been little or no reclamation activity. In a letter dated April
3, 2006, as part of the midterm review response to TR-37, the Division
requested that Bowie Resources LLC continue the reclamation of this site
starting this year. There has been no progress toward final reclamation or
mining activity in several years.
There was a white pickup truck parked near the substation, and a blue
bucket-crane appeared to be working on powerlines near the substation. It
was not apparent what sort of work was taking place. The water tank had
been completely removed (was in the process of being dismantled when
photographed May 18, 2006), and it appeared that vegetation was
emerging on the regraded area adjacent to the tank pad where erosion
control matting had been placed.
There was no activity noted at the loadout-there are equipment, supplies,
and numerous vehicles in the area.
