III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
On the 21 st of July, 1997, William J. Carter from the Division of Minerals and Geology, performed a
partial inspection of the Hawk's Nest mine. During the inspection the weather conditions were clear
and warm.
Hydrologic Balance:
Both springs at the east portal continue to discharge and are causing slumping into the roadside ditch.
Slides and Damaee:
As indicated above, soil is sliding into the roadside ditch near the east portal due to the saturation
caused by the springs.
Others•
The weed control appears to be working on the weds observed during the last inspection. Due to a
time restraint, all the areas that were noted in the last inspection were not observed at this time. In
August a more complete investigation of the results of the weed control will be accomplished.
