(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1979-075HR
INSPECTION DATE 3/15/02
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program of the Colorado Division of Minerals antl Geology.
The Chambers Pit is located 2 miles east of Rifle, Colorado adjacent to the MMM/Chambers Site, This site is now in the full
reclamation phase. The weather was clear with minimal snow cover that did not impede the site inspection. The inspector
was accompanied by United Representative, Rick Johnson.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. The area
is fenced along the west, north and east sides. A berm runs along the south side of the permit area antl acts as a buffer with
the Colorado River.
The operator and the inspector discussed the reclamation efforts to date and current plans for the site. The operator stated
that the landowner has been uncooperative in keeping livestock off the site during the revegetation phase. The operator should
impress upon the landowner that the site can not be released until the reclamation has been accepted by this office. It appears
that without the grazing and soil disturbance by the livestock that this site could be released in a few years. At its current level,
it could be 5 or more years till release is approved. Some livestock was noted in the permit area in the northeastern corner.
The reclamation plan specifically calls out for no livestock activity during reclamation. Due to the uncooperative nature of the
landowner this issue is not being listed as a problem, but will impact the release of the site in the future. This Office will assist
the operator in anyway possible to address this issue.
No significant erosional features were noted on the affected areas of the site. All slopes appear to be 3:1 to the water line,
and 5:1 in some areas along the ndrth edge.
All storm water appears to be contained on site.
No significant infestations of noxious or other problematic weeds were noted on site during this inspection. Although no
vegetation was actively growing, dead plant stands proved enough evidence that no weed problems are noted.
Overall, grading and sloping are good. The vegetation appears to be doing well along the west and northwest portions of the
site. The southern area, east and northeast appear to be sparse at best, here again possibly due to livestock impact.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
p CE
NAME Rick Johnson ^ BL
OPERATOR United Companies of Mesa County ^ FS
STREET P.O.
