The operator was
contacted prior to the inspection but was unable to be present during the inspection. The
site is located approximately 1-2 miles southwest of Lamar, Colorado in the sage covered
sandhills typical of this area. The site was last inspected in 1995 and no problems were
cited at that time.
The permit boundaries were clearly marked and there was an identification sign posted at the
public entrance to the mine site. They is a small highwall running along the east side of
the pit in a north-south direction. It appears that the site is basically mined out except
for a final sand dune in the northeast corner of the pit. It appeared that mining had
occurred in this area recently. Reclamation for this site is mainly going to consist of
regrading and seeding since no topsoil was available for salvage. If the small piles of
concrete rubble along the west side of the permit area is still there when reclamation
commences, this material should be buried and covered with several feet of cover prior to
seeding. The reclamation bond for this site is $5,000.00 and should be adequate to reclaim
this site. This concluded the inspection and no problems were observed or cited.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Terry Dewitt
OPERATOR Dewitt Excavating
STREET '7395 US Hwv 50
CITY/STATE/ZIP Lamar, CO 81052
cc: Jim Stevens
~ CE
~ BL
~ FS
~ HW
~ HMWMD (CH)
~ SE
~ WQCD (CH)
~ OTHER
