III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology.
No one represented the operator during the field inspection. Bill Bear was present for the records check.
Signs and Mazkers
The mine ID sign was up at the top of the hill. Surface disturbance mazkers were up azound the site.
Roads
The paved haul road was in good condition. None of the road debris reported from the last inspection was on the
road this time. The cable at the top of the paved road was down. The gate at the bottom of the hill was closed
and locked. There did not appear to be any problems with the bridge.
Hydroloav
There was standing water in the sediment pond, up to the closed primary dischazge tube valve. The riprapped
emergency spillway was functional. Pond inslopes were well vegetated. The spring water treatment pond was
dischazging the usual orange-colored water at about 20 to 30 gpm. This orange-colored water has been shown to
be in compliance with water quality standards. The water level in the spring water treatment pond was a little
higher than usual, to within 3 inches of the horizontal pipe. Pond inslopes appeazed to be stable.
There were no problems with alluvial wells AW-1 and AW-3. The collection ditch leading to the sediment pond
was well vegetated and had sufficient capacity. The berm between the mine facilities area and the river was
functional. The east side spring was flowing at a point about 30 feet above the facilities bench. The spring water
was being channeled properly into the culvert that leads to the spring water treatment pond.
Facilities
No changes have occurred with the mine office. Both of the building's doors were open.
Weeds
There was tamarisk along the mine site gate, along the banks of the spring water treatment pond and in the
vicinity of the east spring. Several thistle plants were growing on the east side of the facilities bench and on the
reclaimed portal bench. Three large patches of thistle were growing along the reclaimed portal road, neaz the
bottom of the hill. Possible whitetop was growing on the reclaimed portal bench. All of these noxious weeds
need to be sprayed.
Reclamation
Some of the cracks in the backfill of the west portal area aze beginning to fill up with sediment
Records
The records were in compliance, as shown on the attached records checklist
c:/word/beaz3/insp0705
