MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: ~~-ieRn_~s~
INSPECTION DATE: 7/24(0 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: KAP
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was performed as a follow up to an inspection conducted on June 15, 2006. Present at
the inspection were Kate Pickford and David Bird, DRMS Weather at the time of the inspection was
clear, calm, and approximately 80 degrees
2. During the previous inspection, it was discovered that a large portion of the active pit contained
exposed groundwater. The permit for this site does not include parameters for the exposure of
groundwater. This problem was also cited in a previous inspection report dated May 10, 2001. At the
time of the 2001 inspection, Mr. Keith, of Park County Road and Bridge, informed the inspector that the
water in the pit was likely due to recent snow melt and precipitation and that it would be gone in a
month or two when the water evaporated. The previous inspector conducted a follow up inspection
on August 22, 2001, to find that the pit was dry. Mr. Keith explained the presence df the water in the pit
during the 2006 inspection in the same manner as at the 2001 inspection that encountered water in the
pit. During the 2006 inspection, it was noted that it was the inspector's interpretation that the porous
material being mined would not retain surface water runoff for a period of months while it evaporated,
but that the water in the pit was exposed groundwater. The groundwater level fluctuates seasonally
and therefore falls below the level of the pit floor later in the year.
3. The 2006 inspection was followed up, pt the request of Park County, to confirm the observations in the
2006 report. Although the level and amount of exposed water in the pit was reduced relative to the
2006 inspection, water is still present in the pit. The County must complete the measures necessary to
become in compliance with the permit (see problem 1, page 3).
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Jim Lvnn
OPERATOR: Park County Road and Bridge
STREET: P_C) Box 147
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Fcrirpjay CCU RO440
Cc. ^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
X SE
^ WOCD (CH)
^ Other:
