The maps were received here on 1/10/00. Though they were not received by the l I/26/99 corrective action
date specified in my 10/12/99 inspection report, I will nevertheless consider their submittal as adequately abating
this problem.
(Please note: There is still another outstanding problem noted in that inspection report. The issue of weed control
on the topsoil must be corrected by 12/31/00. Though the correction date is months away, please do not delay in
arranging for adequate treatments to be performed at the earliest appropriate season during 2000. I must receive a
statement from you which includes the weed control plan and/or other soil protection plans, a summary of all weed
control activities performed, and the commitment to monitor and correct this type of problem as long as you are
permittee. This statement is what must be received by year's end.)
Regarding the submitted maps themselves, I have a few questions and comments, as I have listed below:
I. The labelled lengths of the sides of the permit boundary are included, as requested. There is, however, a
discrepancy on the length for the east side. One map shows 2540 feet, another map shaows 2640 feet. Please
clarify this.
2. The ;tress of certain activities are shown on one map, though it appears that some may be lacking, and
others may b: incorrectly depicted. Specifically, the roads are incomplete as shown. There is a main haul road
(culverted, ellen) which crosses the onsite gulch to access the northern end, which is not shown. Also, the gulch is
not shown or, the activity map, though a topsoil stockpile (along the western edge) is depicted as crossing the gulch.
I do not believe this is the case. Finally, the configuration of the pits is not accurate, especially the northwestern
one.
I am at this time regarding your submittal as satisfying the requirement for updated maps. However, please ensure
that a corrected and updated map is submitted on the next anniversary date (10/26/00). This should include full
depiction of roads used onsite, natural drainage areas, stockpile locations, pit locations, stripped areas, mined areas,
and reclaimeJ areas. The annual report should include comments about any work performed.
1 look forward to your clarification of the boundary measurement noted above. With that question answered, [he
maps will mrdch, and it will be easier to ensure that the permit boundary is accurately marked on the ground. These
issues may e:dst at other sites permitted to Saguache County, and should be brought up to speed accordingly.
