(Page 2)
MINE ID # QR PROSPECTING ID # M-1977-345
INSPECTION DATE 04/10/07
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Boettcher Sandstone Quarry conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. Gordon Benton of Holcim (US) Inc., Bill
Schenderlein and Cali Baueu of Applegate Group, Inc. were present during the inspection.
The site is located 2 miles north of LaPorte in Larimer County, Colorado. An ilOc permit was
issued on October 10, 1978 for a permit area of 9.9 acres. The Division holds a financial
warranty in the amount of $10,000.00.
No mining was taking place during the inspection. Holcim is planning on reclaiming the site
this summer and possibly selling the property as residential lots. The sire consists of a
steep face approximately 40-50 high and contains numerous rock, overburden and topsoil piles
at the base of the quarry. A rough four-wheel jeep road leads up to the top of the
excavation. Small piles of rock and possible topsoil piles are scattered along the base of
the quarry.
The approved reclamation plan dates back to 1978. The plan calls for leaving much of the
original rocky and uneven surface to 2h:ly or flatter. Final reclamation surfaces are to be
similar and blend with adjacent lands. Soil that is encountered will be re-spread and the
area revegetated. The approved seed mixture consists of Needle and Thread (10 1bsjPLS),
Little Bluestem (5 lbs/PLS) and Indian Ricegrass (8 lbs/PLS).
Some grading will need to be performed to ensure that slopes are 2h:ly or less. Piles of
rock, overburden and topsoil will need to be spread out. Benching of the slope was discussed
in order to achieve the 2h:iv slope and create a more stable configuration. The operator
also suggested leaving the access road in place (which was not discussed in the original
reclamation plan) and possibly a highwall. Any significant deviations from the reclamation
plan will need to be approved by the Division through the submittal of a Technical Revision
to the permit.
I & 8 Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Gordon Benton ^ BL
OPERATOR Holcim (US), Inc. ^ FS
STREET PO Box 1548 ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP LaPorte, CO 80535 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
Cc: Carl Mount; DRMS
Bill Schenderlein; Applegate Group, Inc.
