III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Color~ido Division of
Minerals and Geology. This former underground mine is now reclaimed. The mine
has achieved a Phase II bond release for the majority of the disturbed area.
Ground conditions were generally dry with a small amount of patchy snow in the
shaded areas. The weather was breezy and mild.
Signs and Markers
A small mine identification sign is located on the north side of the railroad
tracks and provides contact information including the mine address and phone
number.
Hydrologic Balance
The operator has cemented wells LA 218 and LA 264 at the site. Both of these
water wells are suspected of leaking methane to the surface.
At the LA 218 site, another smaller diameter casing is located about. 20 feet west
of the cemented casing. This casing was likely the twinned hole used to core the
coal intervals during the drilling at this site. It was not abandoned. This hole
will require abandonment also. The pad remains un-reclaimed at thi:> time.
Well LA 264 consists of a single casing. Although the cap to the well could not
be removed. cement spillage around the casing and site disturbance would indicate
it was also cemented. The well was located using field methods as per the sketch
below.
NORTH Well LA 264
.1.1.L.
r1; Veg Die 1;•
ti• r•
• OUt
•~•~• • 506 feet ® 163 feet
NNNN
N
Fences ^~ Reclaimed
NJ• J~
pond 4
Following final abandonment and reclamation, please file abandonment reports.
The site appeared in good condition for late-fall.
