(Page 2)
MIIQE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-425
Ilvc PECTION DATE 7/26/2000

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS TAS
1. A site inspection was made of the 108 acre Strang Gravel Pit at the request of Dale Miller
of Larimer County. Mr. Miller was present during the inspection.
2. The Strang Gravel Pit is currently active. There are a total of 4 cells which are in
varying stages of mining and/or reclamation. The two (2) eastern most cells have been
adequately reclaimed to recreational use and are now filled with water. The middle cell is
75-80~ excavated and pit walls have been graded to slopes of 3:1 or less. Approximately 25~
of the western most cell has been excavated down to bedrock. The operator is currently
dewatering and using dry mining methods in the middle and western cells. Pit water
is being pumped into an interceptor trench that surrounds the pits, and then discharged
to Box Elder Creek under the terms of an approved CDPHE water discharge permit. There
is approximately 25-30 acres of active mining disturbance. All available topsoil has been
salvaged and stockpiled for use in reclamation. The operator has done a good job of
contemporaneous reclamation as well as minimizing impacts to the surface and groundwater
system in the surrounding area.
3. The site was inspected for noxious and/or pest weed species. The only species of concern
noted was a single Tamarix shrub growing along the eastern shoreline of the middle cell. The
matter of weed control was discussed with Mr. Miller.
4. Sediment and erosion control during mining and reclamation was discussed with Mr. Miller.
Mr. Miller indicated that the crest of the berms separating the various cells will be used
as light access, but will be scarified and reseeded during final reclamation. The access
roads also contain a 2 foot high mid-axel berm for safety purposes as well as to enhance
drainage control. The berms will be left in place and seeded during final reclamation.
5. No problems were noted. The operator has done a good job of contemporaneous reclamation
where possible and has maintained a "clean" site.
2 & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Mr. Dale Miller ^ BL
OPERATOR Larimer County Road & Bridge Deot. ^ FS
STREET P.O.
