MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1990-021
INSPECTION DATE 2-07-02
(Page 2)
OBSERVATIONS

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program of the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology.
The Virginia Acres Pit is a 112c permit located in Grand Junction, Colorado. The inspector was accompanied by operator's
representative, Rick Johnson. This site is now mined out and in the reclamation phase. No new disturbances were noted at
the site during the inspection.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12.
The site is surrounded with a chain link fencing with a large sign clearly displayed at the entrance.
No significant erosional features were noted on the affected areas of the site. Slopes into the pond area are stable. The slopes
appear to be 3:1 with one area at 5:1. All storm water appears to be contained on site and no off site damage was noted.
The vegetation on site is sparse. Some rice grass, rabbitbrush, russian olive and tamarisk were observed, primarily along the
pond banks and in the southwest of the permitted area. The operator plans to get a noxious weed infestation (knapweed)
under better control before a major part of revegetation work begins. There is an active program for eradication under way
and evidence to support some success.
The reclamation cost estimate was not recalculated as part of this inspection. The current estimate was recalculated less than
three years ago and the operation is in compliance with the approved mine plan and reclamation plan. Therefore, the current
financial warranty is believed to be adequate to reclaim the site per the approved reclamation plan.
A problem of imported overburden materials was noted in the last inspection. The observed materials of that concern have
been removed from the site. No other issues or concerns were noted at his time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rtl Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I& E Contact Address
NAME Rick Johnson
OPERATOR United Companies, Inc.
STREET P.O.
