III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
On the 18th of August, 1997 William J. Carter from the Division of Minerals and Geology, performed
a partial inspection of the Hawk's Nest mine. The weather was clear and warm during the inspection.
Additional work was performed in the afremoon on the 20th, of August 1997 by both William J. Carter
and David Berry.
Roads:
• The County road going through the property is in the same condition as noted in previous
inspections. Some of the reFlectors on the south side of the road appeaz to have been broken
while the drilling contractor working at MCC was storing equipment.
• The road to the substation east of the sedimentation pond appears to be in good condition.
Hydrologic Balance:
• Springs continue to discharge.
• The sedimentation pond contained some free water at the time of this inspection.
Others•
• Several of the rockbolts that were intended to hold erosion bales in place, but no longer
required, were removed to protect the public. Some rebar that was considered a hazard was
also removed.
In general it appears that weed control was effective. Some small patches of noxious weeds
were skipped and will be treated this Fall.
