Box $41
Canon City, Colorado 81212
RE: MacKenzie Pit
File No. 80-224
Dear Mr. Lee:
Thank you for your prompt response to my July 9th inspection report.
I have reviewed your responses to my concerns in the inspection report
and feel that you have adequately answered all of my concerns except
one. I will go into a little Further detail on that matter, below. It
appears that the possible ground water problem has also been resolved by
your explanation. Since I forwarded a copy of my inspection report to
the Division of Water Resources, I will also forward a copy of your reply
and this let[er to the Division in order to keep them current on the
situation.
In reference to my recommendation number 4, I am satisfied that you
plan to properly handle your topsoil in the future so that it can be used
in reclamation. However, the situation that exists now is allowing
topsoil to be lost into the pit as excavation of the gravel proceeds.
This situation should be corrected such that no more topsoil is lost.
Also, your plans for the Copsoil in this area (both the stockpiles and
that topsoil not yet stripped) should include the eventual planting of
the final stockpiles with a perennial grass cover crop for stabilization.
Please clarify further your plans for the topsoil in this area.
Thank you for all your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
~~~ ,~_ ~-
Mark S.
