As steep
cope mining, the reclaimed topography was approved as a variance from approximate
original contour. The discussion of the variance is in findings document.
The Bear mine had been in existence for over 40 years so the prPm;n;ng topography
was unknown. In 1981, prior to rer•lw;m;nq, the mine conducted a stability analysis.
The results show that the mine could not be reclaimed to a stable configuration, with
a safety factor of 1.3, using the existing material and still meet AOC. Additional
material was imported from the neighboring Mt. Gunnison Mine to augment the
backfill material, but this was still not enough to meet AOC.
The Division granted a variance from AOC for the Bear #2 Mine.
This is documented in the Division's findings document.
Jim Stover, an environmental consultant representing the mine, has drafted a usable
topographic map of the reclaimed topography for the Bear No. 2 Mine. The Division
is expecting this map any day and will forward you a copy as soon as we get it.
If you have any questions please feel free to call me.
Sinter y, ,
~ /J ---<<
Randall/-P/•/.
