III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Hamilton Mine conducted on July 11, 2007 by Mike Boulay
of the DRMS. Weather conditions were partly cloudy and warm. The sky was hazy due to
visible smoke from nearby fires. There was no activity at the mine site during the inspection.
Hvdro]oQic Balance
Ground conditions at the site were very dry. Sedimentation Ponds A and B were viewed. Both
ponds were dry. No problems were noted at either of the sediment ponds.
Roads
Roads were dry and generally well maintained. The access road to Ponds A and B was rutted in
some locations, otherwise roads throughout the site were in relatively good condition. Culverts
were clear of sediment and debris and capable of functioning as intended.
Reveeetation
Grasses are beginning to turn brown. No significant erosion features were noted in the reclaimed
area. As noted in the previous inspection, numerous Tamarisks are well established in the
bottom and eastern side slope of Pond B, and in the bottom of Pond A and along the inside of the
pond embankment. Canada Thistle and Russian Knapweed were identified at Pond B. To ensure
compliance, please control the growth of troublesome weeds in accordance with the weed
management plan.
