III. Comments/Compliance
This was a partial inspection conducted by Jim Burnell of CDMG on the afternoon of Friday,
May 30, 2003. This site was quiet and deserted. The weather was clear and unseasonably
warm.
At the East Mine, the area below the road that was amended last year showed excellent
revegetation. There was no evidence of erosion at the bottom of the slope. Unfortunately
there was a lot of whitetop in several patches. The weed authorities at Gunnison County
were contacted last month and arrangements made to spray the infestation, but that had not
yet been done. There was no evidence of offsite impact along the river.
The road ditches were dry. The road itself was in decent repair. The area above the road
showed no evidence of instability or erosion and also showed excellent revegetation.
There did not appear to have been any recent movement on the slumps from the top down
over the road.
At the Middle Mine, there was likewise good vegetation growth. There were no signs of
erosion or instability that haven't been there before. Whitetop appeared both above and
below the road.
At the West Mine, the vegetation is excellent, with thick grasses and numerous shrubs.
The pond contained a small amount of standing water. Pond embankments were stable.
There was no evidence of siltation escaping from the site. The river was running very murky
and very high.
