OBSERVATIONS
This was an inspection of the Green Brothers Pit No. 2. It was conducted by Chris Rowe of the Division of
Mining, Reclamation and Safety (Division). Jim Green from Green Brothers, Inc. (Operator) was present during
the inspection. This inspection was carried out as part of the normal every four inspection schedule.
The Mine site was substantially unchanged since the last inspection in 2003. No sand removal has occurred to
date on the mine site. The topsoil was scraped from approximately 7 acres of the site and stockpiled along the
south side of the mine site. The topsoil was adequately vegetated. Two to three feet of overburden was also
removed a stockpiled along the north side of the mine site. The pit has been bermed to help control stormwater
runoff. The site has naturally revegetated since the removal of the topsoil and overburden. The Operator has
chosen to complete a water augmentation plan prior to commencing mining, instead of getting a temporary
substitute water supply plan during mining operations. The Operator has installed ground water level
monitoring wells on site and indicated that groundwater is approximately 4 to 5 feet beneath the ground surface
at site. No groundwater has been exposed. The mine site is located in the South Platte alluvial system.
The mine site had the required entrance sign and the boundaries were staked
No problems were noted during this inspection
Enforcement and Inspection Contact Address
NAME: Jim Green
OPERATOR: Green Brothers, Inc.
STREET: 19441 Highway 34
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Fort Morgan, Colorado 80701
cc:
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers CO Hazardous Materials and Waste Division
U.S. Bureau of Land Management CO State Engineers Office
U.S. Forest Service CO Water Quality Control Division
CO Department of Transportation OTHER:
