SUPPORT FACILITIES
No problems were found in the facilities area.
TOPSOIL
I checked topsoil depths with a shovel at two locations where topsotl has been recently laid down in
the north portion of the Bud Benson property. Depths were greater than 1 foot. Depths were also
greater than 1 ft along the leading edge of the laydown area (see Figure 2).
_ ,... tiir
--y _ Y 1
• _ ,' ;
h4~'`
r
_ _ !3
~ _ ~~ YY
~ ~ w`}`j"C?1
L- r
~~
_ .- ,ter
R ~l\'- -2 4 - _
Figuro 2 -Leading edge of topsoil laydown area.
REVEGETATION
We walked through the reference area near the airport. The reference area appears to have not been
grazed, mowed. or irrigated (see Figure 3) It has mature herbaceous and shrub cover Woody
shrubs appear much more abundant in the reference area than in the dryland hay fields of the
reclaimed Rice tract (which wtll be compared to the reference area) We discussed the possibility of
moving the boundanes of the reference area approximately 150 ft eastward to get away from a fence
on the west side where shrubs are espeaally dense This move would appear to provide a more valid
comparison with the reclaimed hay fields because shrubs were not in the approved seed mix of the
hay fields
