There is considerable pre-law disturbance at the Roberts Quarry. The annual
reclamation reports indicate that 1.5 acres were affected during 1988, ar..d that .O6 acres
were affected during 1993. The operator intends to quarry approximately 100,000 tone of
limestone at the site during 1996. The proposed quarrying will be primarily confined to
previously disturbed areas.
The required permit sign was posted at the point where the access road cx•ossee the permit
boundary. It was also noted that the operator had posted warning signs around the site
perimeter. These warning signs are a requirement of the operator's approved "Long Term Use
of Division of Wildlife Lands".
The location quarried during 1988 was inspected. This location ie at the s~~uth end of areas
5 and 6 ae delineated on the approved mine plan map. The A-Horizon limestone had been
removed leaving a sandstone dip-elope north, and a highwall to the south.
The approved mining and reclamation plane call for segregation of topsoil, where it ie
present, and stockpiling of the segregated soil at the north quarry perimeter. Topsoil
stockpiles are to be stabilized by vegetating with Annual Rye and Indian Ricegraes. Shot
overburden is also stockpiled to the north of the quarry, and eubsequentll~ backfilled once
limestone extraction is complete. The approved reclamation plan calls for .planting of pinon
trees if establishment of trees ie shown to be feasible based on a teat plot study. The
operator's DOW approval calla for replacement of piiion trees destroyed by mining. The
operator should provide the Division of Minerals and Geology with a epeci.fic proposal for
tree planting for the Roberta Quarry in terms of planting locations and numbers and size of
trees to be planted.
The approved mining plan calla for a phased quarry operation with concurrent reclamation.
The operator ie encouraged to review the phased plan, and to revise tl~e permit if the
proposed operations for 1996 do not fit with the plan that was approved b:sck in 1978.
cc: Carl Mount:, DMG
James Von Loh
Colorado ::tats Parke
1313 Shetman St. Rm. 618
Denver, CO 80203
Dick Bracl:enberry
6 Forest FFills Lane
Fort Colli_ne, CO 80524
I & E Contact Address
NAME Nathan Harton
OPERATOR Pete Lien and Sons.
