(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: ti+-~ 993-059
INSPECTION DATE: inr~n~ INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: -A11G1_
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG. The site foreman was also
present during the inspection. The site is located approximately 3 miles west of Holly, Colorado and in
between U.S. Hwy 50 and the Arkansas River. The site is mined by floating suction dredge method with the
waste sand being backfilled behind the active mining.
The active mining plan matches the approved mining plan and the dredge is presently south of the large sand
overburden pile. As the pit moves it will end up east of and adjacent to this pile which will facilitate removal
and replacement of the overburden pile. Once this phase is completed the dredge will be moved south or
west into a new phase. Also, completing this phase should allow for the disposal of most, if not all of the
overburden sand pile. Mining occurs to a depth of approximately 60 feet with a significant amount of the
mined product being waste sand.
A concern that was identified was proper protection of the topsoil stockpiles. The most recent amendment
requires that all topsoil that is salvaged and stockpiled be immediately broadcast seeded with equal amounts
of western wheat grass, smooth brome grass and intermediate wheat grass at 19 pounds per acre. This either
has not been occurring or any attempts to do so have failed, as the topsoil stockpiles observed on site
contained a monoculture of Kochia weed over the entire surface area of the piles. These stockpiles need to
be treated by burning or plowing the stockpiles followed by seeding with the approved stockpile seed mix. This
will be cited as a problem on page three of this report.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: James Kirkland
OPERATOR: Midwestern Farms Resources
STREET: P.2 Rc~x SAn
CITY/STATE/ZIP: RyP ~~ am~e
cc: I' CE
T BL
I' FS
t HW
1' HMWMD (CH)
I' S E
I' WQCD (CH)
I' OTHER
~P-~ = Ma,\ ~ 700 2~~1-0 oooS' ~~yS' yb13
