<br />III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the <br />inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This aerial inspection of [he Hawk's Nest mine, was photographed by Harry Ranney from the <br />Divisior. of Minerals and Geology on May 8, 1997. <br />The two photographs represent: <br />• the East Mine portal and processing facilities. <br />• the West Mine portal azea. <br />Roads• <br />The old State Highway 133 appears to be in fair condition at the time of the flight. <br />Hvdrolo>nic Balance: <br />• At the East Mine area, the seeps from the east and west sides of the portals appear to be <br />draining across the old State Highway 133. <br />• Then. app~azs to be a seep below old State Highway 133, at the East Mine, which appears <br />to b~ bringitlg a large amount of salts to the surface. <br />,~?n ma)US S11U~3 ~.vere observed in the photographs taken. <br />From these phoiot;raphs it appears that the West Mine site is covered with vegetation, however, <br />portions of the East Mine site appear to be sparsely vegetated, and contain some erosion rills. <br />
