III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Bowie No. 1 C-81-038 <br />Pg 1/1 14 Sept 04 Q~ <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations <br />made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during <br />the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This was a partial inspection of the Bowie No.l Mine conducted by Jim Stark of <br />CDMG. The mine is not currently operating. The West Mine has been backfilled and <br />regraded and most of the structures at the East Mine have been demolished. The <br />weather was warm and sunny and the ground was dry. <br />Signs and Markers: The mine ID signs were in place and legible at the East and West <br />Mines and at the loadout. <br />Roads: -The haul road at the East Mine is a paved road. The road was well <br />maintained and stable at the time of the inspection. <br />-The road to the West Mine was stable and in good condition at the time of the <br />inspection. <br />Hydrologic Balance: -Ponds W-1 and W-2 at the West Mine were dry at the time of <br />the inspection. There was not much vegetation on the embankments but they did <br />appear stable and there were no erosional problems noted. The spillways appeared <br />to be functional. <br />- Pond 1 at the East Mine was dry at the time of the inspection. The wall was stable at <br />the time of the inspection. <br />- Pond 2 at the East Mine was dry at the time of the inspection. The wall was stable at <br />the time of the inspection. <br />- Pond 4 at the East Mine was dry at the time of the inspection. The wall was stable at <br />the time of the inspection. <br />-The west ridge waste pile pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond <br />embankment was well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection. No <br />erosional features were noted on the pond embankment. <br />Backfilling and Grading: The regraded West Mine area appeared to be stable at the <br />time of the inspection. There did not appear to be any cracking or slumping of the <br />backfill material. <br />Revegetation/Reclamation Success: The vegetative cover at the West Mine was <br />good. The area appeared to be stable and the vegetation appeared to be <br />sufficient to control runoff at the site. <br />
