III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observafions made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DMG. No one represented the
operator during the field inspection. There was no activity on site.
Signs and Markers
The mine ID sign was up at the top of the hill. The p.o. box number needs to be corrected.
Roads
The cable across the road at the top of the hill was down. The road was in good condition. There was
no debris on the road from the adjacent property. The bridge was in good condition. The entrance gate
was locked and the "no trespassing 'sign was up on the gate.
Hvdrolo~gy
There was only a smali amount of standing water in the sediment pond. The pond inslopes were well
vegetated and stable. Pond discharge structures were functional and the gated primary gate was closed.
The water level in the spring water treatment pond was about 8 inches below the horizontal pipe. The
discharge was orange in color and was discharging at about 20 to 30 gpm. The orange colored
discharge has been shown to be in compliance with water quality standards.
The east spring was flowing and is starting to break through its ditch again. This ditch needs to be
reestablished. The temperature of the spring water was 98 degrees Fahrenheit at a point about 15 feet
below where the water is coming out of the hillside.
No problems were noted with the two alluvial wells. The collection ditch leading to the sediment pond
was well grassed and had sufficient capacity. The flood control berm between the site and the river had
sufficient height.
Facilities
The mine office building was in the same condition as during the last inspection.
Vegetation
The operator has been cutting the tamarisk around the site. Weed spray equipment was on site.
c:/word/bear3/insp090S
