Wh i.1e the current level of disturbance is obvious and matches up
to the exiting maps, stakes should be installed as soon as possible. (See PB1)
2.) The current disturbance i:; approximately 7.12 acres. Approximately 1 acre appears to be
pre-law mining, and may be~ excluded from the amendment and the permit area. The existing
site records do not inclu~9e a legal description of the exact site size and boundaries,
so the new map (with legal description and measurements) which was included in the
amendment application was used. According to this map and measurements made in the field,
the lower triangular portion of the site can be excluded, bringing the new area of the
pit to approximately 8.5 acres. If the Operator wishes to exclude this area, a new map
with lengths, area, and angles should be submitted in a revision to the DMG application.
3.) Topsoil has been scavenged and saved in one large stockpile along the south end of the
open face of the pit.
9.) There is little current vegetative cover on the site. However, the vegetation covering
the pre-law areas of the pit (which will not be disturbed again) is adequate for release
of the area in question at this time, or exclusion on the basis of never having been
excavated by the current operator.
5.) The gas line running north-south along the edge of the pit has not been disturbed, and
the setback is being observed.
6.}The face of the pit currently consists of a 30' highwall up to the top of the hogback.
Before final release, this highwall will have to be cut down into terraces, such that the
average slope of the face is 1H:1V (thus, terraces 5' wide will require terrace faces of
not more than 6' high, an3 so on).
7.) No structures which were noted in the field were excluded on the map.
No other problems were noted at this time.
I & E Contact Address
NAME John Ackerman
OPERATOR Colorado Dept. of Transportation
STREET 222 S. 6`~ St., Rm. 317.
CITY/STATE/ZIP Grand Junction.
