The Rifle Quarry is a 112c permitted site located northeast of Rifle, Colorado on Highway 325. The site is a
limestone quarry with intermittent activity. No operator's representative was available for this inspection.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. The sign
is located at the entrance of the permitted area. T-posts were observed along the southern boundary, a road delineates the
west edge and the limestone face of the quarry marks the east side.
The last inspection reported an unsecured adit with a hazardous winz. At the time of this inspection a steel bat grater was
in place. The grate is welded shut and secure. No evidence of recent activity was noted.
There is no revegetation activities currently in progress at the site. Aster, willows and other natural vegetation have begun to
take hold in certain areas, A small infestation of Burdock was noted in the lower section of the permitted area. A bigger
infestation was observed just off site in the area just off the main road to the site. The burdock on site is listed in the problem
section of this report with a corrective action date. The infestation is small but needs to be corrected.
Stormwater control appears to consist of a catch basin at the head of the drainage that this permitted area parallels.
This catch basin appears to be adequate for small precipitation events. Evidence suggests that the basin does over flow from
time to time. There is no Stormwater containment below the upper catch basin which resulted in rilling and gullying that was
noted traversing the upper reaches of the main access road. This is a small problem now, which could quickly become a major
issue. A bar ditch and other control measures needs to be implemented to insure control of Stormwater and erosion. The
lack of proper Stormwater control is listed in the problem section of this report with a corrective action date.
All benching and sloping appear to be stable. The natural highwall appears to be broken up in some areas but no major
sloughing was observed. A small area in the upper section had what appears to be topsoil or overburden from the top of the
highwall deposited below. The material is contained by a safety berm and depression that prevents sedimentation of the
drainage.
No other issues were observed.
An updated bond calculation will be done on this site taking into account the current conditions and approved reclamation plan.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rtl Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME Lecia Craft ^ BL
OPERATOR Colorado Lien Comoanv ^ FS
STREET P.O.
