Glen illiams and Robert <br />Schwind, Cotter Corporation Nucla office, accompanied the DMG inspe for throughout the <br />inspection. The JD-8 Mine is located approximately 12 miles west of Naturita at 6500' elevation, <br />in portions of the SW 1 /4 of Section 17, portions of Section 18, portions of th~ NW 1 /4 of Section <br />19, and portions of the N 1/2 of Section 20, T46N, R17W, NMPM, Montrose County. Operation <br />is approved for 20.06 acres affected area. DMG holds 554,815 financial v~arranty. Operation <br />appeared dormant during the time of this inspection. <br />Records -Permit was issued on 10/10/84 for 20.06 acres affected area. O erations went into <br />Temporary Cessation ITCI on 1 /5/87, due to declining market conditions. D G approved 5-year <br />extension of TC, effective 1/5/92. On 2/14/97, DMG approved Technical evision 1 (TR-011, <br />revising mine status from TC to intermittently active. DMG records do no indicate additional <br />modifications to the original permit application. <br />Signs & Markers -Mine identification sign and affected area perimeter mark~rs were observed. <br />Public access to mine site is controlled by locked gate. Mine access road w s well maintained. <br />Facilities Area -Public access to mine portal is controlled by locked metalli doors. Access to <br />underground workings of JD-8 Mine is provided through pre-permit Opera Box ine portal and 600' <br />long tunnel. Surface facilities at portal included compressor building, water ank, transformers, <br />waste rock stockpile and surface drainage control structures. Surface drain ge is controlled by <br />ditches and berms. Road drainage is treated for sediment by passing throng silt fence prior to <br />departing site. Drainage from waste rock stockpile also passes through silt fe ce prior to leaving <br />site. Silt fences, ditches and berms were well maintained. Vegetative cover ithin affected area <br />included Rubber rabbitbrush, shrubs and various grasses.
