remains functional on site. Pond Z has breached and is no longer functioning, and
as far as can be determined, pond A was never constructed.
Waste Piles: Do engineering designs exist along with pictures of the construction of the
underdrain? Where? N/A
Are quarterly PE inspection reports and proctor density test results available for
inspection? Where? N/A
(iv) The degree to which erosion and sediment control is present and functioning;
Do all disturbed areas drain to permanent ponds or impoundments? /f not, describe those
areas that do not. /s a sediment pond necessary?
Approximately 8 acres at the south end of the mine are not controlled by a
sediment pond. Contour furrows and vegetation are the only control measures.
This system functions satisfactorily, however, some furrows have breached and
rills are forming. In the seven years since reclamation was accomplished little
sediment from this area has reached the county road despite some very heavy
thunderstorms. The area appears to contribute less sediment than the surrounding
"undisturbed" area.
Describe any mechanical treatments to the reclaimed surface (furrowing, terracing,
imprinting, pitting, ripping, etc.)
Contour furrows are the only mechanical treatment used and it was used over the
entire site.
Describe any areas of rills and gullies noting depths, lengths, frequency and estimates of
age of development and recent erosional activity
Minor rills and gullies exist throughout the site sporadically, however, none of
these warrant any special action as they are small and are less noticeable than what
exists on the surrounding undisturbed lands.
Describe whether rainfall or snowmelt (or both) are the primary cause of erosion or
sediment transport
The major cause of erosion onsite is due primarily to severe thunderstorms
experienced in the late surruner and early fall time frame.
5
