(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-~98(L-189
INSPECTION DATE: LCl/9Sind INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: KI C
QBSERVATIONS
A Surety Release Request from the operator prompted this inspection.
As at the Edwards Pit, this site was seeded twice, then hydromulched and drill-seeded this past spring. Recent
heavy rains reportedly caused the ponded water at the bottom of the pit. These rains also necessitated the
need to regrade and reseed. Two to three weeks prior to our inspection, blankets were installed over fresh seed
near the bottom of the south slope, where some of the worst erosion had occurred [See photos 2 & 7].
The same seed mix was used at both the Edwards Pit and the Yoder Pit; the NRCS -Valentine specified seed
mix, "Special Mix." From the label, it is composed of
EI Reno, sideoats grama 21%
NE 28, switchgrass 21%
Barton, Western WG 14.9%,
Pastura, Little Bluestem 1 1.9%
Slenderwheatgrass, VNS 11.34%
Morpha, weeping lovegrass 6.23%
Sand dropseed VNS 2.89%
Photo 1 shows a berm constructed to slow water flow into the pit. Photo 3 pictures the berms erected on the
northern pit embankment following the recent heavy rains.
Photo 10 captures a sandstone outcrop along the upper eastern side of the pit.
Posey suggested Sullivan return with CDMG vegetation expert, Tony Waldron, to discuss weed management,
potential winter seeding, and provide a more detailed revegetation assessment and recommendations. Taylor
requested to join us on the follow-up inspection.
Wilson and Taylor were advised that the site did not meet revegetation standards specified in Rule 3.1.10, so
Surety Release would be denied at this time.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Mr. Chuck McCulloh cc: CE
OPERATOR: EI Paso County DOT BL
STREET: 3460 N.
