(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: nn-te~~-387
INSPECTION DATE: "~-~'~-ns INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: Inn
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection to evaluate Prowers County's compliance with the permit, regulations and the
Act. Jake Wilson represented Prowers County and accompanied the inspector.
This pit is on a hillside and it is mined to near the permit boundary on all sides. Some of the permit highwalls
have been reduced to reclamation grades. However, the approximately 30 feet high pit wall in the northwest
corner is very steep and very close to the permit boundary. If the highwall in that area is reduced to
reclamation grode by cutting in this area, land outside the permit boundary will be affected. To avoid this the
County will have to amend the permit to add land or backfill that area to achieve reclamation grade. There is
some material on the north highwall that could be used for this purpose, if it is not removed in gravel extraction.
There is a topsoil stockpile near the entrance to the pit and it appears that a small amount of material has
been borrowed from it. Prowers County should prevent others from borrowing from the pile so that there will be
sufficient soil for final reclamation.
There is a small section on the southeast side of the pit where topsoil was not salvaged and gravel extraction is
causing the loss of topsoil. The County should remind the pit operators that they have a requirement to salvage
all of the topsoil.
Overall, the operation is, for the most part, in compliance with the permit.
The identification sign is properly posted and the boundaries are well marked
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Mark Dorenkama
OPERATOR; Prowers County
STREET: 1(19 F Sharmnn StrPPt
CITY/STATE/ZIP: I mm~r, C(7 Rin59
Cc: Harry Posey- DMG
