(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1983-208
INSPECTION DATE 03/25/2002 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This was apre-operation inspection of the area proposed to be added to the Shavano Pit through a current application for
Amendment No_ 1 to permit M-1983-208.
The amendment area lies south and east of the current permit area and consists of a high and dry ,relatively flat mesa top that
will be daylighted on a majority of the south side. The northeast facing hill slopes in the amendment area have a stand of
pinyon pine that the county will leave as undisturbed Mule Deer habitat, at the request of the Colorado Division of Wildlife. This
will result in a long, thin ridge feature along the northeast boundary of the amendment area.
The boundaries of the proposed new area have been marked with posts and signs. No structures were identified within the
proposed area. The area is covered primarily with warm season grasses dominated by blue grams and galleta, with scattered
clumps of big sagebrush and prickly pear cactus.
There are several structures within 200 feet of the proposed affected area boundary including fences, powerlines, a county
road, an irrigation canal and most notably, a Cemetery, many of which are not addressed in Exhibit S of the application. The
cemetery is located adjacent to the north boundary of the southeast addition to the permit area. A somewhat dilapidated wire
fence around the cemetery marks the permit boundary at this location. Avery old looking gravestone is located approximately
3 feet north of this north boundary. Measures to protect the cemetery will need to be incorporated into the amendment
application.
No significant erosional features were noted on the proposed location.
No significant infestations of noxious or other problematic weeds were noted during this inspection.
No seeps or springs were noted on the mesa outslopes in or adjacent to the proposed permit area.
The application has a Iccation proposed for a future alternate access road that is specified to be added by technical revision.
Incorporation of the alternate access can only be addressed as a technical revision if the area for the road is included in the
proposed affected area during this amendment process. In this case all structures within 200 feet of this affected area need
to be addresses at this time. If Montrose County wishes to address the alternate access road at a later date, and does not
propose to affect that area until then, then the alternate access road will need to be permitted at that time through the
amendment process. In this case, only the structures within 200 feet of the proposed affected area, without the alternate
access, need to be addressed at this time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3ftl Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970-243-6368.
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
cc:
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WOCD (CHI
^ OTHER
