This river secpnent is classified as Aquatic Life, Class 1 Cold,
which means the river should have sufficient water quality to support trout and
the associated supportive aquatic biota (aquatic insects, algae, etc.),
The November 9, 1987 data shows that water quality standards are met only at
Site FS1 (Forest Boundary). The pH and iron standards are violated at both FS2
and F53. The CDS lab heavy metals analysis was designed (for economy) to mea-
sure concentrations of heavy metals only down to the concentrations listed in
the National Interim Drinking Water Standards (EPA, 1/3/84) which are less
stringent than the Colorado Department of Health Mancos River standards. Sur-
prisingly, for all three sites, metal concentrations (except for iron), were in
compliance with Interim Drinking Water Standards. Dissolved oxygen is in com-
pliance with standards at all of the sites.
UPS .~ Fs~exoo~aen ex~
