. !~~ 8
In 1988 several recommendations are offered:
1) Thoroughly examine the East Mancos watershed above Site FS2 for potential
acid sources (mines or natural acid seeps). This could be done after
snowmelt runoff, as early as the second week in July. Measure water
quality (pH until an acid source is found, then supplement with metals
analysis) at potential acid metals sources and at several spots along the
river.
2) If violations of water quality can be attributed to a active point mining
coordinate with Colorado Mine Reclamation Board and State Health Department
to bring the operation into compliance with operation and water quality
standards.
3) If the water quality problems can be attributed to abandoned mining point
sources, coordinate with EPA, Colorado Mine Reclamation Board, Trout
Unlimited, or any other technical information/funding source and plan,
coordinate, and implement appropriate rehabilitation projects.
rn~~
MARK S1t~RY
Hydrologist
Enclosures
cc: Dave Dauber
Mark Ott
Dave Yoder
MS:mav
UPS ~s
FS~8700~20~7~821
