III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Coa] Gulch Mine conducted by Tom Gillis of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology.
The cable across the entrance to the access road was in place at the time of the inspection. The ground was mostly
dry at the time of the inspection, thunderstorms passed through the area a few days prior to the inspection.
HydroloQic Balance
The lower pond contained a small amount of water (about the same as the previous inspection) but was well below
the elevation of the primary spillway. The nearby collection ditch that drains the surface of the regraded spoil
disposal area is showing signs of down cutting, however the high percentage of angular rock fragments exposed by
the down cutting have accumulated in the bottom of the ditch and appear to be acting as riprap to prevent further
down cutting.
Reclamation Success
Vegetative cover includes some thistle infestation across sections of the reclaimed area (no change from previous
inspection).
