III. COMMENTS COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division
of Minerals and Geology. This former underground mine is reclaimed. Some
buildings remain as permanent for use by the landowner. Ground conditions on this
day were snow-covered and the weather was clear and windy.
Availability of Records
The public copy of the mine records is kept at the Clerk and Recorders Office at
the Las Animas County Courthouse in Trinidad. All required records were found as
detailed on the attached checklist.
Hvdrologic Balance
The sediment pond was snow-covered and appeared to hold only a small amount of
water. The pond embankment appeared intact and normal. There was no evidence of
any runoff since the last on-the-ground inspection. The permanent diversion
through the site appeared normal.
Processino Waste
The 100-year diversion ditch behind the shop building has been cleaned of sediment
deposition recently. The ditch was photographed and one of those photos is
included. No slides, slumps, or damage to the waste bank or the steeper slope
areas were noted. The south-facing slope above the waste bank was snow-covered
but melting was beginning due to warming temperatures. Overall, no problems were
noted warranting on-the-ground inspection.
:~ ~-a: _- ~. ..:
~> = '`;
'~ •~s:~
r
_~;- ~ d-~
`~ 2}~
,.
3
