i
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Eastside Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of DMG. No
company representative was present during the inspection. The Eastside Mine is in reclamation
only status. Weather conditions on site were overcast and warm. Ground conditions were dry.
Signs & Markers Mine ID sign was posted, and all information appeared accurate.
Hydrologic Balance The sediment pond was dry and no recent discharge was noted. The pond
embankment was well vegetated. The upland diversion ditch was mainly vegetated with annual
grasses and Russian Thistle. The ditch appeared functional. The permanent diversion ditch was
well vegetated in good repair. The rip-rap section from the lower end of the permanent diversion
to the natural drainage has not yet been installed. The operator has informed the Division that
this work will be completed this year. The mine water pipe was not discharging, and no recent
discharge was noted.
Backfilling & Grading The backfilled slopes are well vegetated with numerous grasses and small
shrubs. The reclaimed area shows no signs of erosion or stability concerns.
Revegetation This is the third reclamation growing season at the Eastside Mine. The
vegetated on the mine site is well established. Grasses and shrubs noted on site were Yellow
Sweet clover, Indian Ricegrass, Western Wheatgrass, Intermediate Wheat Grass, small shrubs,
Smooth Brome, Cheatgrass, Alfalfa and Cicer Milkvetch. The operator may execute a Phase II
bond release this year.
