. ~ i
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. This site is entirely reclaimed, with a total reclaimed area
of about seven acres. Ground conditions were damp. The weather was warm and humid.
Signs and Markers
The mine identification sign is beginning to show signs of wear. It should
probably be repainted in the near future.
Hydrologic Balance
The sediment pond appeared in good condition. Muddy water filled the bottom of
the pond. The high water mark in the pond was slightly below the trickle tube.
The trickle tube outlet was inspected. was found clear of debris, and showed no
sign of discharge from a storm event. Water was standing in pools and flowing
slightly in Engleville Gulch, which is adjacent to the pond. Evidence of sheet
flow on the reclaimed area was observed. It appeared the site received a locally
intense storm event sometime in the last 24 48 hours.
Revegetation
Thistle plants have for the most part, set seed heads. Vegetation appeared
somewhat sparse, apparently due to grazing pressure. Cattle were not observed on
the site. The Division recommends no further grazing this season. Drought
conditions in the 4-6 weeks prior to this inspection may also be to blame for the
marginal condition of the vegetation.
Overall the site appeared in fair condition for summer.
3
