III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
This was a complete inspection conducted by Jim Burnell of the CDMG on the morning of
February 13, 2001. Weather was overcast and cool, with intermittent snow showers. The mine
site was quiet and deserted.
The access road was a mostly snow free while the mine site itself was entirely snow-covered
with several inches of crusted snow.
Signs were in place.
The sediment pond contained snow and meltwater, but the level was 14 inches below the gated
discharge pipe. The level of the treatment pond for water from the Edwards portal spring was
likewise 14" below the emergency discharge. Water was dischazging steadily, however, at
about 20 gpm. The water temperature was cold, but the water retained that dark brown color
that has been characteristic of this discharge since its appeazance. That 20 gpm was flowing
from the slide mass on the slope at the South end of the yard.
There was no evidence of any recent movement on the slide mass. The slide and the entire slope
was covered with snow.
There was no disturbance at the east end of the site.
The perimeter ditch contained some deadfall but is easily capable of carrying sufficient water.
The office building was secured.
Outside the office buildings are bags of thistle that were cut last fall. These bags are degrading
and thistle seed is open to wind dispersion from some of the bags. These bags should be
removed and disposed properly.
