(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1995-035
INSPECTION DATE 12/09/02 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine inspection of the Wellington Downs Pit conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Colorado Division of Minerals & Geology. Loretta Pineda and Deb Bell of DMG were present to
assist staff using the permit imaging system in the field. Gregg Neely of Connell Resources
was present during the inspection.
The Wellington Downs Pit is located approximately 1 1/2 miles west of Timnath in Larimer
County, Colorado. The 112 Mining and Reclamation Permit was issued to Connell Resources on
January 22, 1996 for a permit area of 109.5 acres.
A mine identification sign was posted at the mine entrance. Existing fences on the property
delineate the permit area. Mining is complete at the site, yet the asphalt batch plant is
still in use. Gregg Neeley stated that the plant will be removed next year.
The approved postmining land use is developed water resources. The site has been partially
reclaimed using a compacted shale backfill along the pit slopes and reseeded. It was
difficult to determine from the inspection if slopes have been completed to facilitate a
lined reservoir. Piles of shale/clay material were noted along the western edge of the
permit. A dewatering trench is still in place to collect the groundwater from the northern
end of the pit. Groundwater continues to accumulate in the pit and is pumped into the La
Poudre River on the southeast end of the permit area.
A topsoil pile was noted within the pit that will be used for reclamation. Other piles of
aggregate and crushed asphalt were noted on site. The crushed asphalt will be recycled in
the asphalt plant.
No problems were noted during this inspection.
I & E Contact Address
j CE
NAME David Simpson EL
OPERATOR Connell Resources ]" FS
STREET 4305 E.
