ti
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the La Plata Coal Mine for the month of May, 1998.
ROADS: The reclaimed roads are sprouting new vegetation and at the conclusion of this growing
season, should be fairly stable.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: vegetative growth is very good at this site therefore erosion is at a
minimum. The only detraction at this site was due to an extreme thunderstorm 2 years ago
which caused the main gulch to erode the slope below the goe-fabric..
GENERAL MINE COMPLIANCE: The overall condition of the mine is very stable. This coming
spring, work on the sediment traps is not required as the site does not contribute any more
sediment than the surrounding undisturbed land. Some maintenance on the head of the gully
would be in order pending time and conditions.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS: overall outstanding. Patches of leafy spurge are starting to develope
and will require spraying. Dan, if you read this, you owe me a beer.
