This partial inspection was performed by the Division in response to the onsite operator's recent correspondence regarding
stockpiling and storage of ore mined at the Golden Wonder Mine down at the parking lot of Vickers Ranch, which is not
an area currently included in the permitted area. The Division was interested in whether any of that ore was being
stockpiled there, since it is not an approved ore storage location as required in the mining plan and environmental protection
plan. The operator's representative was contacted about the inspection, but there was no mine-related activity or mine
personnel at the Vickers site at the time of the inspection.
The only area observed during this inspection was the parking lot of Vickers Ranch, where sacked ore from the Golden
Wonder Mine has been observed numerous times. No portions of the permitted area of the Golden Wonder Mine were
observed during this inspection. There was no piled ore or sacked ore at this location, no empty ore sacks, and no mine-
related debris or equipment parked there either. The parking lot was functioning as a dude ranch parking lot, with visitors
and their vehicles occupying it as normal. The adjacent area where additional sacks were observed in 2001 was
unoccupied, and revegetating again.
The ground was not closely observed to verify if any spilled ore or mineral-stained material was still present. The areas
did not appear to have been used for ore storage for some time. It is hoped that the onsite operator will understand the
need for adhering to the requirements and restrictions for operations at the permitted Golden Wonder Mine, as set forth
in the Division's 1 /9/02 letter, and run the operation accordingly. If the operator wishes to deviate from the permit's current
requirements, a revision or amendment to the permit may be applied for. If he wishes to appeal the opinion of the Division
as set forth in the above-named letter, the matter may be settled through appeal before the Mined Land Reclamation Board.
The office will perform a complete inspection of the site later in the 2002 season, to verify compliance with the rest of the
permit. The office will notify the operator at a later date when that inspection is scheduled. The operator is reminded to
keep up with the required water sampling schedule, and to submit the analyses in a timely manner.
There were no additional items observed. No problems exist at this time. All responses or questions about this inspection
